Description

Technical life restoration.
Two years ago I uploaded the WIP process of my Deinonychus 2012 version with some tips to create a good paleoartistic reconstruction. delirio88.deviantart.com/art/D…
Even if the way to draw is still valid, there's a step that need an in-depth add-on: the outline.
In the 2012 version the integument follows the "flesh outline" giving to the animal a not credible look.
A comparison with modern birds points out how the plumage covering and hiding the actual appearance of the creature, creating voluminous and softer shapes.

The result is a realistic-looking silhouette and a much more parsimonious reconstruction.

Coloration based on the mimetic palette of a partridge, a ground-nesting seed-eater galliformes native to Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.

The choice of the Partridge's colors starts from the need to find a creature similar to a non-avialan theropod. Birds that live most of their lives on the ground are the perfect reference for a credible coloring.

Edit: pose and colors rivisited

What we need now is an image of a pair of hugging and kissing deinonychus, since their footprints show they lived in groups, friendly behavior is crucial for them to work together. Maybe, they are picking out each others dead feathers. Or letting babies hitch a ride on their backs.
